Paramahamsa Hariharananda

HariharanandaParamahamsa Hariharananda (1907 – 2002) was born in the village Habipur, West Bengal and where he spent his youth. He was a prominent disciple of Shri Yukteshwarji who initiated him in 1932. In 1938, a few years after he graduated as a textile engineer he chose the solitude of ashram life and to meditate. He received the initiation in second Kriya from Paramahamsa Yogananda and the other initiations from Swami Satyananda and SanyalMahasaya.

In 1948 he reached the state of Nirvikalpa Samadhi, the state of exceptional bliss, without pulse or breath. Afterwards Babaji and the Godly Mother appeared for him. After Swami Yogananda requested himto lead the Karar ashram in absence of Swami Satyananda and after his mahasamadhi. To grant the wish of Babaji, in 1974 he started to spread the Kriya Yoga technique in the West; first in Europe and later on in US and South-America.

He led a very active life till the age of 95 and founded several ashrams, including the Kriya Yoga centrum (1993), his first ashram in Europe. He was full of compassion, love and wisdom and wrote the standard work  “Kriya Yoga” (publisher Kamala, 2033). The last years of his life he stayed in the US and founded the flourishing ashram in Homestead (Florida).
